Also any relatives of Harry Ewing who died 1945. I have letters from a close friend of his written to my grandfather Sgt Gordon Haugh who wrote her a letter of comfort after his death.

My late father Joe Pratt(3186493) was a KOSB for 17 years and marched in the Victory Parade in 1946, representing the regiment. He was a Borderer to the end of his days and we had a piper playing 'Blue bonnets over the border', when we scattered his ashes.

John Boyle:

As Tommys older brother I would, on behalf of all his family say thank you very much to all the "Borderers" who attended his funeral. Tam would have been thrilled to see so many old faces assembled on his behalf. Many a time he quoted to me the "Once a Borderer always a Borderer" phrase, he was very proud of his time in the Battalion and his lifelong association with it.He will be sadly missed by all. Some peolple go through their whole life wondering if they made a difference, Tommy didn't have that problem.

Rest in peace brother, Borderer and friend.

John

Agnes Linning:

Hi I am the daughter of Laurie Wagstaff who served 42 to 46.

He was taken prisoner 21/1/45. He died 1990 without talking much about the war (like most of the returning men). While a little drunk one night he did say he was on guard duty over the cellar where the officers were meeting when the village was attacked by tanks. He went to the window to check what was happening and returned to the room gave the signal for the officers to stay, and when he turned his way was blocked by a tank gun coming through the window. It was the day after his birthday. Where was this? I know that Sgt Gordon Kerr died that day(5th bn KOSB) was it in the same village? I know it was or is easy for any soldier and my thanks go to all.

5th KOSB

1939-1946

Sergeant Archibald Selkirk from Edinburgh

Sergeant Edward McSkimming from Girthon & Annan

Researching wartime history of 5th KOSB.

Interested in tracing family or relatives of two NCOs who escaped from Cherbourg France by small boat in June 1940 - Sergeant Archibald Selkirk [b.1918 Edinburgh] and Sergeant Edward McSkimming [b.1912 Girthon, Kirkcudbright]. I believe Sergeant Selkirk may latterly have lived in Ratho, near Edinburgh. I believe Sergeant McSkimming may have lived latterly in Annan, Dumfries.

Any further information or assistance would be very welcome.

Bill Heaney:

1 KOSB SIGNAL PLATOON REUNION

We are writing to inform you that a Signal Platoon Reunion is currently being arranged for all those who have served in the Signal Platoon in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers at any time. Five years have slipped by since the last Reunion, which was a roaring success and so many people who came on that night said that it would be a great idea to meet up again with some old (or is it older?) friends. The time has come for the second gathering and we hope that you will come and make this night an equally great event.

A stag night, with hot buffet, has been arranged for Saturday 24th October 2009 at 7.30pm in the WO’s & Sgt’s Mess at Dreghorn Barracks, Redford Road, Edinburgh. There will be some barrack-room accommodation available in Redford Cavalry Barracks for those who need to stay in the camp. It is regretted that we do not have the use of the Garrison Officers Mess. A charge of £10, to be paid in advance, is required to cover the cost of the evening.

To ensure that we can gain maximum coverage, please get in touch with everyone you know of who would be interested and give them the details of this letter. Alternatively, give us their address or telephone number and we will do the rest.

It would be nice to have some old photographs to compare and discuss so, if you have any available, please bring them to the function and they can be collected at the end of the evening. If you are unable to attend, then we would appreciate it if you would send us an update of what has happened to you since leaving the Army, as well as a recent photograph! However, we hope to see you there in person.

Further details will be sent out to known e-mail and home addresses. If you are worried that I don't have your address then e-mail me at: bhxxv(nospam)@btinternet.com with your name, address and e-mail address. Please pass this message on to everyone you are in touch with who might not have Internet access.

The Reunion is for anyone who served in the Signal Platoon at any time, for any period of time. Signal Cadre does not count as service.

I am looking for info on a Robert Sneddon, I have very little to go on except that he died from T.B. which was brought on by suffering from malnutrition in an Italian P.O.W CAMP in ww2. Robert was the youngest brother of my Grandmother and it was this info that was found out by the Salvation Army after the war as she was his eldest sister she asked the Salvation Army to enquire on her behalf, and this was the news they gave her.. I am trying to ascertain if the KOSB served in Italy and if anyone might remember him. I would appreciate any help or info regarding Robert. Thankyou in anticipation..
